Currently Cesky Terriers are at the top of the Endangered Terrier Species List. If you have any ideas how we can publicise their and others fate, do get in touch.
It is with sadness that I create this page and I hope that the contents will surprise some readers, maybe even spurring them into trying to promote the breeds listed below that are now on the Native Vulnerable Breed List. I have also included a link to The Kennel Clubs official Vulnerable Breeds Site: here
I can give you some skye Terrier alarming statistics. The skye Terrier is the 4th most endangered species of Dog as recognised by the Kennel Club. 41 puppies were registered last year (2011) to sustain the breed we need to have around 300 bred per year. There are only 4000 skye terriers in the world. They are now as rare as Giant Panda's, Indian Tigers, Gorilla's how sad. The Skye Terrier club is working hard with the KC to promote this breed. Even the papers are picking up on this sad story
Kennel Club Vulnerable Breeds Link
The Miniature Bull Terrier,
The Dandie Dinmont Terrier
The Smooth Fox Terrier
The Glen of Imaal Terrier
The Irish Terrier
The Kerry Blue Terrier
The Lakeland Terrier
The Manchester Terrier
The Norwich Terrier
The Sealyham Terrier
The Skye Terrier
The Welst Terrier
As there are only 26 registered breeds of Terrier, this means just under 50% of them are on the endangered species list. Thats not a good thing.....
